Google+ for Business is here whether you are ready for it or not. I’m sure many of you are thinking, "Great, another social media website, I already have a Facebook. Why do I need it?"

It seems redundant, especially if you look at it that way. But there is a very large audience that is plugged into Google+, so it would be wasteful to ignore all those eyeballs. And don't forget about the power that Google itself brings to the table.

As soon as we heard the announcement that Google+ Pages were available to the general public two days ago, we created a Google+ page for TempWorks and one for Staffing Talk as well.

I'm going to review the basics, but if you want an in-depth step-by-step tutorial on how to set up a Google+ Page, check out Danny Sullivan's awesome article from Monday.

First things first: Set up your Google+ Business page.

Do you have a Google account? You will need one before you begin. It’s simple, don’t worry. Click here to create one.

Now that is settled, you can create a page by following the first link above. You will see a screen like the one in the picture below.

Once you have accepted the terms of service, you will be able to upload a picture.

Pic Tip: Google+ has Picnik within their system so when you upload a picture, you can easily edit, crop or resize it all right there.

Once your picture is ready, continue and move on to filling out page content. What do you want to say? As a staffing company you have the opportunity with Google+ to go beyond the words on your page.

With Circles you can separate content; which you can’t do with Facebook. All of those posts about job openings can now be shared with your job seekers' circle specifically.  Exciting offers and benefits for clients can be shared only to clients and company news can be easily shared with the public.

Simply put, Google+ lets you easily share the right things with the right customers.

Google+ tip: If you send a message and it is only between you and 2 other people, it will still show up in your stream but only you and whomever you have shared the post with will be able to view it and see responses.

So you have a Google+ page, you have a photo and you’ve filled out the profile information for the page, now what?

So you have a Google+ page, you have a photo and you’ve filled out the profile information for the page, now what?

  • You can put your Google+ badge on your website so people can click through to your Google+ profile.
  • Do a Google+ search and start connecting to people. Make sure you put them in the correct circles!

Are you familiar with Google+ Hangouts?

Hangouts let you set up one-click video conversations with customers and colleagues alike. You can get face-to-face product feedback, help customers solve problems or simply get to know them better. You can also collaborate with remote colleagues on shared documents in real time -- all over high-quality, easy-to-use video chat.

For those that don’t want to share everything with everyone, Google+ is the answer. Want more info on the power potential of Google+ Pages of businesses? Check out this well-written article by Nathaniel Perez.
